CARLSBAD REVISITED

We took a quick trip to Carlsbad Caverns last week. We went about 14 years ago, and the kids at home didn't remember it. Logan had a friend here for a few days, so we decided to head down to the cave. Lots of fun. If you haven't been down into a deep cave (Carlsbad is one of the worlds best), you should.

Logan at the entrance to the cave. The Bat Cave houses 250,000 bats that come out to feed at dusk. We saw this but weren't able to take any photos. Really amazing.

Taylor, Logan, Wyn and Gage

Swallows nest in the entrance to the cave and fly around during the day. At night, the bats take over the shift. The come out in one big wave, circle counter clock wise and then stream by the thousands south toward the Pecos River. An occasional hawk or owl will pick off a couple in flight, but not too many other predators.

It was hard to photograph the beauty of the cave.

We got hit by the last of Hurrican Dolly
moving up from Texas, so it was kind of wet at White Sands. Glad it cleared so we could have a fun time at the caves.

Wow. This is great seeing that your last post was THREE MONTHS AGO!

I do love Carlsbad Caverns . . .and the boys loved their postcards. Thanks for sending them!

We loved our one and only trip to the caverns. Mitch was about 4 years old and we were so far into the cave when he announced that he had to "go" BAD! We didn't make it out of the caves in time...poor Mitch!

What a fun-sounding trip! We went on our way home from seeing you in Arlington the Mother's Day weekend after Shay was born. Wow--how time has passed. I remember that the gift shop earned at least a months profit off of our family--we didn't have any sweatshirts with us. Who would have thought it could get so cold so quickly?
It is fantastic and a must-go-to place.

How fun! It has been too long since our last Caverns excursion for our fam, also.

So, do you have more time for lunch and life since Sunday's events?

Wow Shauna! I haven't been on any blogs lately (proofreading those darn cookbooks...ugh!). I decided to take a break and see if my friends have posted anything new. I love your pictures! I have never been to Carlsbad Caverns; Greg has, with his groups of scouts, so we've never gone as a family. It looks really cool!

Yay! I've been keeping my eyes open for your next post. That makes two excursions I have heard about and now I want to go!
